Few modern day authors can create such brooding, gothic atmospheres like Susan Hill can. She also has quite a talent for creating detestable, yet compelling antagonists in her works.While I wouldn't class Dolly as one of her best efforts, it still had all the hallmarks of a classic ghost story to keep me happy.
