I think that The Castle of Crossed Destinies is probably one of the most cleverly written books I've come across in a good while. Unfortunately, I also found it rather dull in many places as well. For me the book didn't really pick up until the second of the story, which was a pity as the novel is so short that once I started to get a feel for the pacing and the setting it was all over.I can't decide whether it needed another hundred pages with some extra padding on the characters, or it needed to thirty pages shorter and placed into an anthology, either way something just didn't click with me.
